The Community Matters Fund

We offer free event space at FINNOVATION Lab to local businesses and organizations created by and for underrepresented communities to celebrate cultures, history, and growth.

How it works

Every month, we will make two free event spots available. Our capacity is up to 200 people for weekend and weeknight events, and 35 for weekday events during business hours. While there are no criteria for Community Matters events, we would prefer to host public events. Heritage months are a great opportunity to bring communities together, and we will give preference to particular communities during those months (see below for a list of nationally recognized heritage months).

For example, June is Pride month, we would want to amplify the voices of companies and organizations founded by, or looking to support and celebrate LGBTQ people. However, if a LGBTQ company or community group wanted to host an event in August- which has no recognized heritage month, we would be happy to consider the event pending interest, which is on a first come first serve basis*. All event requests should be submitted at least two weeks in advance of the event, but we expect spots to fill up fast so get your request in as soon as possible.

If you or anyone you know is interested, please reach out to Olivia Rudek, our Business Operations Coordinator, at olivia@finn-lab.com!

We hope that this initiative centers community, cultural understanding, and fun by prioritizing marginalized communities and companies during their heritage months and beyond. Below is a list of recognized heritage months but we are happy to consider other groups if this list is incomplete.

*FINN Lab reserves the right to decline any event we feel does not align with our values or our space’s capabilites.
